Mindfulness: The 21st Century Cure
By Moris Beracha.- In our world various disorders such as anxiety and depression are usually very common and go unseen. By the time they can be detected, people feel they are in a blind alley. Many seek out professional help and certain psychiatrists end up prescribing pills that in certain cases can only worsen the problem or trigger substance dependence in the patient.
However, nowadays, there are more psychologists and psychiatrists who decide to use mindfulness-based techniques to treat different psychological problems, thus leading to a positive impact and a change in people who consider that their problems have no solution.
Mindfulness is a Buddhist practice that involves staying in the present, in the here and in the now through techniques and exercises such as meditation and yoga. It is a time when you connect with yourself and listen to your body and mind.
The benefits of this practice can be felt in the first session. Exposure to meditation or yoga for just one hour can produce significant changes both physically and psychologically. These practices shape our entire world view, a healthier view where we are always at peace with ourselves and the universe.
Symptoms associated with the aforementioned disorders (such as insomnia, certain physical pains, irritability, and concentration problems) begin to disappear from the moment you decide to include mindfulness in your daily life.
It is not necessary to suffer from some emotional problem to start meditation. Many studies show that mindfulness strengthens the immune system, helps creativity, concentration and maintain control for emotional regulation. It also helps people suffering from chronic pain and also helps control one of the most common diseases of this century: stress.
Every day more and more people decide to practice mindfulness and notice the change that this lifestyle has given them as a way to be healthier where acceptance and peace is the key.
