Making decisions is one of the most distressing processes for many people, especially if they are important or difficult, such as changing jobs or countries, or thinking about whether to leave a job to start one’s own business. But, why do you find it so hard to make decisions?

In order to make important or difficult decisions, the first thing you need to understand is why you feel this way. Each person is a world, and each individual may have a particular reason for this, but for most of us there are main reasons why we don’t see ourselves as capable of doing so:

Fear of failure: perfectionists are the ones who suffer the most when it comes to making decisions. They want to make the perfect choice, without making any mistakes, and that’s why they are so afraid of making a choice that could lead them to failure.

Not seeing the alternatives that exist: in life, there is not only an A or B answer to choose from, nor are things black and white. There are other options and many more colors, but sometimes we get so overwhelmed by a situation that we are only able to see one way out.

Avoiding restlessness: making a decision is a process that often leads us to doubt, and that can cause discomfort in our minds. That is why some people avoid it so as not to have to go through that bad experience.

Procrastination: procrastination means that we put off tasks or things we can do at the moment until later. And that’s another reason why we have a hard time making decisions. We prefer to put off a decision that we can make now out of laziness, to avoid that anguish, or because we are afraid to face what is coming.

Whatever your reason is, and whether it is on the list above or not, making decisions is something important that you must learn to do as soon as possible. The choices you make will be the ones that make your life better, move forward, and enjoy the opportunities that come your way.
